FROM THE AUTHOR:

We Call On You: This piece was written to galvanize the Michigan Medicine community in protest of the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd. It was used as the invitation for the Black Medical Association’s Virtual Protest and was accompanied by a brief thought piece afterwards. Our realities, grievances, and experiences of racism have been put on full, undeniable display this year, and every year before this. This call to action intentionally invokes The University of Michigan’s purported trademark of being the “Leaders, Victors, and Best”, and challenges the Michigan community to live up to its self-proclaimed accolade by standing against injustice, and with those who are disenfranchised.
