FROM THE ARTIST: This poem looks at how the past few months have been both novel and normal. While the term “unprecedented” has spiked in its usage lately, many of the issues that we’re experiencing are the continued result of our country’s racist and classist infrastructure. But even amid my anxiety, fear, and difficulty accessing medical care, I hold so much privilege in how little COVID-19 and police brutality have affected my life. Thus, I am far from being one of the most impacted people this year and everyone reading this poem still has the privilege of being alive. We can still breathe, after all.
