Marc Arthur is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Arts-based Social Justice Research and Practice in the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan. He studies the role of directing, devised theatre, dramatic writing and performance in achieving diversity, equity and inclusion in education and social work practice. Arthur’s research focuses especially on artists who use performance to restage the AIDS crisis by enacting dramaturgies of transformation and new forms of biomedical embodiment.
Marc Arthur is working on several initiatives and grants in the School of Social Work and beyond that bridge the arts and social justice. He also teaches a course in SMTD’s EXCEL Lab titled “Art as Social Action: Realizing Impact Through Community-Driven Performance” in which students develop their own community-based art projects.
